I'm trying to replace the automatic hubs with manual on a 95 full size. Is there a trick to getting the wheel retainer off? I have the lockring key off. The directions I got don't list a special tool needed in the list of tools you need.

I think what you are talking about is a spanner nut socket you can rent them at Auto Zone or Pep Boys

Are you talking about the big nuts inside with four notches on them holding the bearings in?

Go to the store and buy the hub socket tool. Once both are off it comes off. Did they give you new nuts that are narrower than the auto hub style?
