Could someone please help. I have a 1989 ford bronco with the 5.0.... Yesterday while driving down the highway my vehicle began to loose power and died. It seemed like a fuel issue so I removed the fuel filter and air came shooting out. The gas was very hot as was the filter. After bleeding the fuel line I waited about 2 or 3 min and it started right up and away we went. We then parked it for about and hour or so and took off again, It did the same thing but this time when I bled the fuel line it wouldnt start. I hooked it to a chain and towed it into town, parked it at a service station. When we got to the station I unhooked it and the dang thing started right up. So I left it at the station, as a freind ownes it ,,,,but I have no clue what it is or could be. PLEASE HELP ME,,,,Thanks

Welcome to the zone!

Does it die with out notice? or Does the engine run rough for a bit then stall?

My First guess is your eletronic fule pump is over working... Thus the fuel is getting hot and vapor locking the system.

I'd start with the $20 part. And if that doesn't fix it well... at least you got a new part :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Is the check engine light on? or Is the light only on when the engine stalls?

Pull the vacuum line off the regulator. Check for gas in the vac line. If none plug the line and test drive. When the regulator is faulty it will allow the fuel preasure to be high . I doubt the regulator is the problem but why not check before spending even $20.00.

I have found an exhaust leak blowing hot exhaust on the fuel tank. After a few miles of driving and a bit of time sitting at idle the heated fuel will expand in the lines and stall the engine.

Good Luck

Ok this morning I checked the fuel pressure and it was around 30...drove the heck out of the vehicle and could not get it to die, spit or sputter again...So after lunch and its about 95 to 98  degrees,,,,,I check the fuel pressue again and it is not getting above 20. take the line off the pressure regulator and the pressue goes up a lbs or 2,,,,so next move is replace the fuel pump,,,thanks all for the help.  PS someone even said wrap the fuel line in foil to help insulate it.........

Foil being aluminum will draw heat to it. Better to use a heat protection wrap....best to cure the problem.

Still sounds like the pump get "tired" after some run time and can't keep the pressure where it should be. Just a coincendence that it appears heat is the problem.

We replaced the fuel pump this morning. Pressure stayed around 32 to 34. Clamped off the line to the fuel pressure regulator,,,pressure jumped to 44, 45. They said that was great...so I am in hopes that this cures the issues....Thanks Again to all for your help !!!!!
