Help, Wont engage in 4X4 where to start cheking?

When i press the 4x4 button the light dosen't come on and the 4x4 doesn't go in. But i do hear the sound off clicking noise in the dash on the passenger side, but it's not engaging. Can someone give me some info about that? Where to start cheking?

Look for info in the tech articles forum. There are a couple links to tips on troubleshooting your 4x4 system, as it is a common problem. JSM84

When I bought my truck the dude said he had just replaced some kind of worm gear that engages the 4x4. I'm guessing it sits by the tranny or transfer case but I'm not too sure. Those tech articles Justshootme84 pointed out might shed some light on it.
