I looking at a 96 Bronco 5.8 w/auto trans & 160,000 miles it looks good how many miles could I expect to get out of this truck before I have engine/trans/transfer case /rear end problems. What other problems could I expect to see with this many miles? I want to use it to go trail running in the desert here in SO. Cal. all my friends say Jeep Wrangler but I am very happy with my Explorer and thought I would look at the Bronco. All comments welcome. Thanks for your help. Rick

it's so hard to predict failure of any mechanical component

if you take care of the vehicle and perform regular maitenance on it then you can get years of life.

it depends alot on your driving style too as to how long certain things will last

a buddy of mine has a 90 bronco that he takes extremely good care of, and doesn't drive it hard all the time and has had to replace everything on that truck front to back three times

and then there's my truck that gets the living **** beaten out of it and all i've had go is the tranny

so the long winded version of the short answer is you can't predict how long any of the components will last :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

i completely agree with what misskitten said. Also sometimes you just get a bad truck. I have had several ford motors go 200-350k without being cracked open(besides things like Valve cover and oil pan gaskets). I had a ford probe that was driven every day, orig. owner. orig engine and tranny with 350k on it. I made several 500mile plus highway trips and lots of in town driving and never gave me a bit of trouble.

Then i have also had trucks that you look at funny and things fall off. Like my 89 i just took in for inspection and everything was fine, 2 days later my wheel cylinder on the back left started leaking!

The great thing about these trucks is parts are typically cheap(depending on model) and easy to find. I can go into any autoparts store and ask for just about anything for my 85 or 89 and they have it. I have other cars that i always have to wait a week.

Ford parts are less expensive than jeep parts;) i own a jeep grand cherokee.

My '95 has 214,000 miles on the stock motor and it runs fantastic and has great compression. However the trans was repalced at 180,000 and the limited slip in the reaerend rebuilt along with bearings and such at 190,000. My truck was extremely well taken care of before I had the privilege of calling it mine but the guy that had it before was a photographer for DIRTSPORTS magazine and he wheeled it.

i couldnt agree more. I've always thought that milage was irrelevant compared to the history of the truck. Luck plays into it alot too. But look on the bright side. if you get it and it turns out to be break down every day type truck then you'll learn more about mechanics :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
