351W with 3 core alum radiator, hoses flattening out and blowing coolant out of over flow tank. I tried new cap and installed new thermostat also put spring in top hose. No coolant in oil so head gasket should be fine and its not running hot, running really good???? Any info would be greatly appreciated and thanks for your help

Are both the upper and lower hoses flattening? Is your 351 stock, or is it modified?

Water can't be compressed, so you have to have air in the system. The waterpump sucks from the bottom of the rad. so it's sounds like you have a big air pocket, and/or you some how blocked off the bypass.

Tell us what you're running in detail.

Are you sure the thermostat is not in backward? Something here doesn't add up. Blowing coolant out of overflow and not running hot????

Hey guys thanks!! I think I finally got it. Seems to have had a big air pocket in it, I filled it up or I thought I did until I tried another rad cap with pressure release. I drove it around till it got good and hot and thermostat opened, took rad cap off and low and behold it was half full so I did that a few more times and seems to be doing good so far. The rad cap I have on now is 16lb should I go back to stock 13lb? 351w stock

Also not sure my temp guage is working what is the normal running temp? Mine is running around 160 degrees but I was always told it would run cooler since I went with Alumn rad. Thanks again you guys are GREAT.

Glad you figured it out and thanks for reporting back :D/ . Yes, I would go with the standard cap and 160 is too cool for your engine, it should be at least 185 - 195. It should run a little above your thermostat temp. Below that would indicate either a (thermostat stuck open, bad sender or a bad gauge). Are you reading the stock dry gauge, or a wet gauge installed by you.

Good luck,

:)>-

Its the stock guage and even before I changed to the alumn rad it seemed to read low. I ordered a new temp sender that screws in top of motor, hopefully thats all it is. My thermostat is a new 180 degree
