I bought a 1990 ford bronco with a 351 windsor in it. I dropped a new motor in it new plugs, new spark plugs wires, distributor, cap and rotor. replaced all gaskets on the engine replaced air filter and fuel filter. I know the new engine i put in the 1990 has power i had it in a 1981 and could pull any hill as fast as i wanted this new bronco i have hardly any power i put it in 4 wheel drive and it really doesnt have the torque or anything to move the tires. I did notice that my u joint that is next to the transfer case from the rear axle is really worn out and i have alot of play alot. was wondering would that be binding up at all and causing power loss?

a u joint will never rob you of any significant power. What was wrong with the old motor? Did it burn oil, or blow a head gaskt. If so try getting a backpressure test done , the cat. con. may be plugged. If not ,what gears/ tires you running, could be you can't get any power as you need lower gears.

well I took the cats off and they cloudy how good should you be able to see through the cats? I could just clean out the cat and make them hollow i had that done on my 81. nothing was really wrong with the old engine it just had 175k miles on it and i like to have a reliable vechile up 4wheeling....yeah everything on this 1990 is new except the exhaust system i can kind of see through the cats but it is really hazy

also i was going down a hill one day and saw that there was a concrete barrier at the bottom and i had to put it in 4wheel drive and i put it in reverse and it didnt have the power to turn the wheels. I have 31 inch 10.50 tires on it not really big tires has stock gears but it should have PLENTY power to run those tires my dad's truck is a 1987 f150 with a 302 in it and it has over 200k on the engine and he kicks my butt and he has no engine work nothing done he is stock

if its a new motor, it shouldnt be anemic. check your fuel lines, fuel filter. they may be clogged and not letting enough fuel get through to the truck. your timing could be off, too.

don't give up this early in the game. you're missing something. just create a check list of every possible thing that it could be, and run tests and checks on them all. if that doesnt do anything, invest in a code reader and see if the computer tells you anything

Check your timing again. I did a lot of work to the engine on mine and the timing was so far off that it wouldn't go over 35mph on a level paved road.

Is this motor fuel injected ? If so what cam did you use ? If you didnt use the right cam for the fuel injection system then the timing events are all messed up thats probably where your power loss is coming from . When I built the 351 in my bronco now I used a comp cam specific for the fuel injected 351W . It runs very well . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
