Yesterday I replaced the flywheel, clutch assembly, and rear driveshaft on my 1970 Bronco (302 V8, 3-speed). I also bought the Hurst floor mount shifter. I got everything back together, and went to install the new shifter, but found that both of the levers on the transmission were frozen. They won't budge at all. All I did with the tranny was pull it and put it to the side while I did everything else. It worked fine prior to pulling it into the garage to start working. When I start it and let out the clutch it stalls without budging an inch. Even if it were stuck in 3rd gear I could still get it to roll. I have no clue what happened. Could it be that I ben the input shaft and something inside the transmission is now out of whack? If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. After all that work I'm itching to get it back on the road!!! Thanks!

take the shift lincage off at the tranny. then shift both shift arms into nutral. then put the lincage back on making sure that the tranny stays in nutral. you probley need to adjust the linkage. also make sure the shifter is in nutral ther should be a hole on the bottom side to slide a pin to hold the arms in alingment. just remember to remove it.

I had this problem when I did my Hurst install several years ago. What I found was that the linkage attached to the side of the transmission was not adjusted correctly and it caused it to try to shift into reverse and second gear at the same time. What I had to do to unjam it was jack up the rear (make sure the transfer case is in two wheel drive). With the rear up I disconected the linkage from the transmission and had a helper rotate the tires forword and back while I used a wrench on the shifter input bolts on the side of the tranny. By working it back and forth you should be able to get it back into neutral. Get both the 1st/Reverse and the second/third shiftgates into neutral and readjust your linkage to the shifter. Hope that helps.
