I need some assistance to what should be a relativly easy situation. I have a 1996 Bronco and am getting ready to replace the rotors due to the previous owner letting the pads go too long. This rig has factory manual locking hubs and has not had a auto to manual conversion. I pulled the hub cover expecting to find the standard 4 pronged axle nut but to my suprise was greeted with a 6 pronged axle nut. This spanner style nut measures 2 5/8 at the low point of the recess and I can not for the life of me find a socket that will fit. I have been to every auto parts store, looked at every OTC and special tool cataog but can not find the socket for this nut. Someone please tell me I am not going crazy, and you have experience this same problem. Thanks in advance.

I believe what you are looking for is this http://broncograveyard.com/bronco/i-29625-spindle-nut-socket-dana-44.html . If not, please post a picture of the part you are talking about.

Good luck,

Manual Locking Hub Removal

Separate cap assembly from hub body by removing the three Torx® head capscrews.

Remove the lock ring seated in the groove of the front disc brake hub and rotor (1102).

Remove the body assembly from the front disc brake hub and rotor. If the body is difficult to remove, install two capscrews and pull the body assembly out of the front disc brake hub and rotor.Installation

Follow removal procedures in reverse order. Tighten three Torx® head capscrews to 4-6 Nm (35-53 lb-in).

Do not pack the hublock body assembly or cap with grease. Excessive grease can cause excessive dialing effort and hub failure
