Hello i heard from someone on here that havoline is really good oil and i have also heard from a buddy of mine that its the worst and gunks up and would never use it, so i was getting a few more opinions.. he says use penzoil so again just wondering...

oh and i also heard from the same man on here that adding acetone to your gas tank will get 30% gas mileage but the same friend says it will eat the S*** out of my hoses and to not use it...

Havoline oil, haven't used it. Acetone, I have been using for 2 years. I definitely see an improvement in gas mileage with it, but mostly the engine runs smoother, it's hard to describe, but it just feel better. Acetone counter acts some of the negative effect of ethanol and makes the fuel atomize better which = burn more efficiently.

Take a look here and make up your own mind. They have no product to sell which is why I have become a booster of their site. They have spent years testing and know what works for them in their trucks and cars. I haven't implemented all their suggestions, but do so as the opportunity presents itself. In other words I don't just drop everything and go out and buy a ton of stuff, I try one thing at a time.

That site was what got me to try out accetone, it has defenitly worked. But now with some other stuff I have added, my right foot has gotten heavier, it sure does run nicer.

I've never tried Acetone and never heard about it. At least, not that I can remember. Since highschool though, I've never been a fan of Penzoil, but I think that's just more preference and a little help from my old auto teacher. Since I've rebuilt my motor I use GTX 20W 50 and my 94 t-bird runs Syntec since it was a penzoil car before I had it and I've been told that going from synthetic to regular oil isn't something you want to do. I only run 10w 30 in it though. I guess I'm just a Castrol fan. Well, that's my gibberish for this one...

Stay away from Penzoil...it is total crap oil. I use Quaker State, which my Dad taught me to use. He says he's been using it for 40 years without having to rebuild an engine. Valvoline works good too, but is designed primarily for engines that don't run for long distances...i.e. race cars. I also use about a quart of Lucas oil with each oil change in place of one quart of regular oil. Thus far, I think it helps with engine performance. Acetone shouldn't hurt anything in your fuel system. It acts just as Seabronc said, plus it cleans your engine better than most injector/carb cleaners.

I use penzoil in all of my trucks and really can't complain. I'm not a fan of synthetic oils because they are much more expensive and once you start using them you have to continue.

Where do you get Acetone? I think that may help the fuel system in my ******. It likes to act like the fuel system is dirty untill I put Seafoam in it, then she does okay for about 1/4 tank or so.

I get mine from the places where they sale hair stuff for salons, something like sallybeauty.com

it is under 5 bucks. Then just get your self a measure cup and a funnel. Be careful with the paint.

Why do you need to put in synthetic oil if you have previously used it?

You can buy it by the gallon at Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, drug stores have it in 8 oz bottles, as stated that is what finger nail polish remover is. Just make sure you get 100% acetone. In the gallon form Kleen Strip is 100%. Also, do not use more than 3 oz. per 10 gallons of fill up. If you have a Holley carb with the plastic sight hole plugs, it will soften them, I had that happen, and replaced them with the original metal caps. I got a few of the 8 oz. bottles that I keep refilled since they are easy to carry around in the storage pocket in the back of the truck. Get a funnel and measuring cup also. Be careful putting it in and keep it off your paint.

Oops...sorry Jimbo, but you don't have to. In fact, you can mix your synthetics with regular motor oil (same viscosity). I'm not a fan of synthetics because I don't think they have any proven advantage over regular oil...at least not in a production vehicle...perhaps in a race motor. Lucas oil (unless you get their synthetic) is not a synthetic oil.

And we really gotta get you converted to Quaker State....that penzoil just doesn't hold up. I can run (although I don't) upwards of 4000 miles with a decent color oil at change.
