honestly man, if your looking for good gas mileage, youve got the wrong car. i average around 190 miles to the tank if im lucky ( i have a heavy lead foot). bronco's just take alot to get up and going and to keep going. you could put a 5 speed in it and hope for the best.

The Bronco was never designed to be an economy car but you can do tings to improve it. 250 miles to the tank, what size tank? What is your MPG? Here is a write up on gas and things you can do to improve mileage, I personally use some of them but haven't gotten around to trying everything in the article. Any way it is s super informative site and well worth reading through. http://www.lubedev.com/smartgas/tips.htm more good articles at http://www.lubedev.com/smartgas/

Good luck,

I have a 93 XLT 5.8 that has about 218,000 miles on it with original alternator, waterpump and most everything else, (I can't wait to try to get those plugs out) . It is a really great truck!

As for mileage. I get 11.4 mpg, that's both highway and city/country miles. I think I have a 33 gal tank... that would mean about 376 miles to a tank. I would think you should get at least that much mileage out of a newer motor....or maybe I just have a good one.

Hope this gives you an idea of what to try for.

When I got my '96, it only got about 12 mpg on the highway. New plugs, wires, coil, K&N FIPK, and Flowmaster exhaust and I got a 25% increase in mileage. Of course, 25% of 12 only brought me up to 15 mpg on the highway. If your looking for good mileage, your not going to find it in a Bronco. I wouldn't trade it for anything, though.

Gas mileage in a full size? Isn't that heresy?

Honestly, if you worried about your gas mileage, get a commuter car and use your Bronco for play. For example, I got a 92 Ranger. It has a 4.0 liter V6 and a 4 speed automatic. I get anywhere from 16 - 20, depending on where I get my gas from, how I drive, and how much city/highway driving I do. Most of the time, I average 320 miles on a 20 gallon tank. I would get better mileage if I had a 5 speed, but I'm not going to complain. It isn't the best mileage, but it is good for a pickup.

I kinda doubt a Bronco will ever see 20 or higher. If a member on the board gets that kind of mileage, I would like to know how.

yo,

"...also seems to hestitate when i accerate in lower speeds..."

is the Check Engine Light (CEL) on? or is the E4OD Transmission Control Indicator Lamp (TCIL) blinking?

Your tires size is also an issue, they are approximately 3 inches larger than stock, If you truly require better gas mileage maybe you should go back to the stock size tires. (blasphemy) Maybe consider installing a 4.10 gear ratio. May help some too.

AS FAR AS THE HESITATATING NO LIGHTS ARE ON AND IT'S ONLY BETWEEN 1000-2000 RPM'S I WANT EVERYONE TO UNDERSTAND I KNOW WHAT I'M DRIVING AND DON'T EXCPEST TO GET 20MILES TO THE GALLON AND I'LL NEVER TRADE MY BRONCO . BUT I WAS GETTING UNDER 10 MORE LIKE 8 MILES TO GALLON WITH STOCK TRUCK ON 32'S AND SOME OF YOU ARE EVEN SAYING YER ON 35'S GETTING AT LEAST 12 .... I WAS JUST TRYING TO GET IT TO ABOUT 10-12 MILES TO GALLON .... I MUST SAY I TOOK IT OUT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE MUD SINCE I GOT IT . GREAT TIMES ......

Maybe you could hit your caps lock so it doesnt seem like your yelling. Sounds like your being kinda rude talking in all caps like that, we are just trying to help. We are all just Bronco lovers here, not Ford techs glued to the computer waiting for someone to serve

ditto yardape.

As for gas mileage, I have a 89 351, C6 and 31" tires and I am getting about 250 miles to a 33 gallon tank on a good day. That's about 7.5 mpg. And I run mid-grade fuel too. Never ran anything else in any of my Bronco's.

Yeah it costs me anywhere from $75 - $90+ to fill the damn thing up but oh well. I love my Bronco. On the flip side, I have an 86 diesel Toyota Camry. Talk about good gas mileage. =)

Also, are you sure the hesitation is not the trans? Mine has a tendency to not shift into first at stop signs/redlight etc and pulling off in second gear is not "snappy"... at least in mine...

Just on another note. I just rebuilt my motor (around 1000 miles or so ago) and if my foot is in it I get about 9 miles to the gallon, but if my foot is out of it I get, you guessed it 9 miles to the gallon? Oh well, that just means my foot is in it more than out of it! B)

A throttle body spacer should increase mileage somewhat. Also headers will help. I plan on adding these let me know if they work.

YES... If u want better gas millage with 32" tires then you will need to open up the truck to an K&N filter and free breathing exhaust. with my setup (see signature) i'm getting about 10-13 mpg. plus if u think about it useing 32inch tires will throw your speedo off anyway so your traveling farther than what your odometer says anyway.
