the problem may be the sender, the guage, the wiring, or a bad ground.
You might consider checking the above, just short of dropping the tank (following the info presented above) and just keep a gas log, until you need to drop the tank to make fuel pump repair.

Bronco fuel pump access panel
If you need to get to the pump, you can either drop the tank, or cut an access panel in the cargo area.
