Gas Gauge

so its a 94 with a 351 never took the tank out or anything but im not to sure why it stoped working so now im marking my millage to see how far i can go on how much gas and its a little bit of a pain. does any one no what kind of system the gauge uses or a cheap fix i could do? i guess i could take he tank off and check it out but i want to no what im dealing with before i need to find a ride to the parts store cause my tank is sitting in the drive way while im fixing it. any tips are appreciated thanks in advanced

Mine did that for seemingly no reaso n. Two months later, it came back to life and has worked since. Never did find out why.
