Gas Gauge

Hey Everyone have another one for ya , The other day I filled up my tank and after noticed that my gas gauge was still on 1/4 so of course I asumed the worst the gas did not pump because that morning on the way to work the gauge was working so i went to another station and toped it off just to make sure and my tank was full so now the question is how do I check the sending unit to make sure its not just frozen ( new england weather ) and with out dropping the fuel tank has anyone run into this problem or had a fix 95 XLT 5.0 Thanks Stu
