Too bad over inflated tires kills traction. I got +1mpg when I did that (accidentally) :-"

The big thing is to keep a smooth running engine. If it has to work to stay running that kills gas. I know I get 8-9mpg's and I have some stuff to take care of. Another gas killer is stomping on it off the line. Your 1986 302³in makes 250 ft/lb @ 2000 rpm. Make the torque work for ya w/out lugg'n the engine.

All good suggestions, but just so you don't get your expectations up too high, Bronco's weren't designed with fuel economy in mind. The best I have ever heard of anyone getting is around 17 MPG and that is few and far between. Most Full Size Bronco's get 10 MPG or less around town and maybe 12 to 13 on long highway cruises.

i get 10.5 mpg with a 351 running 355 gears and 35s. feel lucky that i get that. if a person wants high mpg a fullsize offroad capable 4x4 aint the right ride. i understand we all want to get the best that we can get, but we also have to keep in mind what foundation we are working with.

Broncos are not an economy vehicle I get excited when I get anything over 9 MPG in my 92, but with 4.56 gears & all the stuff I haul. Even when I ghanged engines it didn't matter. My 95 which is pretty stock has maybe seen 12 MPG once.

The secret to enjoying a Bronco is to NEVER calculate the gas mileage. It's about as aerodynamic as a brick.
