I've got a 88 BII & I think the sending unit is bad. How hard is it to change it?? Do you have to drop the tank? I'm thinking it's the sending unit, because the gauge goes from 3/4 to E in a mile or 2, & there is still a 1/2 tank of gas left.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Not real familiar with II's but there's a way to test both the gage & the sender (just like the EB's) B/4 taking anything apart.

The $15 book fr. Autozone will spell it out so you don't ruin the gage.

There may be a "small" volt. reg. on the back of the panel (like the EB's) as well. This reg. cuts the voltage down to 5-6 volts. :-B

The problem you describe is consistant with the resistive strip in the sender unit wearing out. The only way to fix it is to replace the sender. However, Bully Bobs suggestion to check the other end first is the thing to do. Since the instrument voltage regulator effects more than one instrument, I wouldn't put it high on the suspect list.

Dropping the tank can be a PITA and is also some what dangerous. You might want to take that to a mechanic and let them have all the fun.

Good luck,

:)>-

I do believe that it is the sending unit. I have had this same problem on a old truck & the new sending unit fixed it. It's not my DD, so I think I'm gonna try to fix it. It will be an experience!

Thanks for the help! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
