Good morning all, here I go again, neither one of my fuel guages work,I posted about this a while ago.Taking the advise i got here I started digging, here is what I came up with

1. found wire unhooked on the dash selector switch-put it back on-still no reading

2.put switch on main tank, grounded out sending unit pigtail turned key ,the guage went to full, flipped the switch to aux and the guage went to empty

3.with the switch on aux I grounded out the aux tank pig tail and it went to full, flipped the switch back to main,it went to empty

4. I checked both pig tails with a voltmeter and could not get a steady reading it was jumping all around

This tells me nothing is wrong with the dash switch and the dash guage works,so why won't they work? What am I missing,I'm so confused. Any help will be great

The only other component is the tank sending units.

"4) I checked both pig tails with a voltmeter and could not get a steady reading it was jumping all around"

Not sure what this means, but, what you check with meter is "OHMS"

This is done on the tanks sender wire stud and ground.

(BTW there are ground wires on ea. tank sender..?)

(these need clean connections)

HOWEVER, you can't get an ohms variation reading W/O removing the senders & moving the float by hand. This req. the tank being near empty to prevent a big mess.

In some cases, the float rots & sinks.... preventing a reading.

If you've never insp. them (senders).., it's a 1 banana job. The senders are a bit fragile/danty..., easy to damage.

Naw.., elect. just takes a few times work'n with it. That's how we all started.

The senders have a "lock-ring" that has tabs sticking up. A small hammer & ***** driver serves to tap it out counter clockwise. Wiggle the sender out.., then look at insp. or repl. the "O" ring it presses against. (in a slot...some are square)

Clean that area B/4 installing tested, or new sender.

I don't remember the ohms variation..., something like 70 on one setting & 25 on the other. It's published somewhere.

Someone on this board may know the readings between full & empty.

Ya.., keep us posted... >:D< <'>
