I have a 1987 ford bronco but the light on the dash does not come on to activate the transfer case to go into fourwheel drive. I checked the actuator it flashes four time means good right? if the dash switch is working right will this make the light on the box on foot panel passenger side come on when I press the dash switch? I trying too figure this out dont wanna buy anothe transfer case input motor if it's the dash switch any help out there? Is their a fuse somewhere besides under the driverside dash thats connect the motor on the transfercase? Thanks

yo,

I am thinking, from an old sketch I have, that Fuse 6 & Ckt Breaker 12 in cab fuse block control the "Shift-on-the-Fly" (also called “Touch Drive”) Borg Warner 1356 transfer case.

See if this will help; I don't know 100% if the later year troubleshooting is same as your year, but...My Haynes Manual shows same wiring diagram for your year! I'll try to scan the diagram in later and post it here and in my site.

Four Wheel Drive (4X4) General Information, Operation & Troubleshooting TSB 92-1-8 for Bronco, F Series & Ranger (COMPLETE); Includes Electric Shift On The Fly (ESOF) Troubleshooting & Hub Operation Source: by Ford via Chilton

I know it is long and some others have said they stopped reading it after page 3...

on top left of page 7, "WHEN THE DRIVER PUSHES THE 4 x 4 BUTTON TO SHIFT FROM 2WD TO 4WD, THE 4WD LIGHT ON THE CONTROL PANEL LIGHTS"

Page 9; left side, low

"The obvious first step in diagnosing a dead system is to check the power sources, fuses and grounds.

If these check out, you should run the shift control module self-test. Figure 22 shows the module with pigtail “A,” “B” and “C” attachments. The self-test button and self-test LED are located on the side of the shift control module."

Then directly opposite this on same page, read, "Check Transfer Case Motor"

So, so, take a glance at it and go to page 6 and then onto page 11;

"...If no lights illuminate as you go through the shifts and ground power and bulbs are good, then the module is at fault or the motor has stopped at an intermediate point..."

lastly;

High Fluid Level & Low Transmission Fluid Level And Or Shift And Or Engagement Concerns TSB 97-12-13 for 87-96 Bronco & many others; "...transmission may have low fluid level and/or may have either a shift concern and/or an engagement concern. This may be caused by transmission fluid leaking from the transmission into the transfer case through the transfer case input seal. Replace the transfer case input seal..." read more Source: by Ford via thedieselstop.com

My MUCH BETTER-Hald scanned it and saved it in my site for you..looks same as the 4x4 by Ford diagram exc for the;

power from Fuse 6 (15 amp) to "ElECT SHIFT CONTROL MOD" WHT-PPL

and

CB 12 (30amp) to "ElECT SHIFT CONTROL MOD" BLK-WHT

SEE A7 and A8 in the 4x4 diagram,,, it shows those two wires:

BLK-WHT as BK/W from SHIFT MODULE to P1 BATTY and

and WHT-PPL as W/P to P2

Click on each pic to Enlarge

..I can't see it well from my lap top where I am now..so..

Shidt on the-Fly Control Module and motor, lights..etc. Wiring Diagram;
