I'm new to this site and just wondering if someone could answer a question for me. I have a 1996 Bronco with a 302 in it and over last winter I pulled the motor to put a new oil pan on it and seal it up. The question I have is now that it's all together I have an oil leak which appears to be coming where the rear main would leak. But I just read a thead about putting sealant on the flywheel bolts so they don't leak... Why is that?? I don't think I have seen a ford 302 leak oil from the flywheel bolts (Mustangs). Just wondering if anyone know's why this happens. Thanks in advance. Great forum!!

well to be honest i have never heard of a bolt on a flywheel leakin i know when a rear main leaks it might look like its comin out of the flywheel but i dont think actually i know my 1995 351w cant leak cause the bolt holes dont go all the way through to the back of the block so i dont think thats true.

Well I took it apart and it was leaking at the bolts. Rear main was dry. Also found out that thru a ford service book that all flywheel bolts should have thread seal applied. Doesn't give a reason why but I think I found out...
