2013-02-03 14.30.40.jpgHey yall!! I jsut started my first EB project truck! A 1975 U15 code. This truck has sat for at least 8 years... outside. So, its pretty bad off. From front to back: Ramsey winch (seized, maybe useless), 351W with Holley 600, C4, Stock Axles w 4 wheel drums, Buckshot Mudders Q78s, Dana 20 Tcase (i think), stock fuel tank with aux tank, 2.5" lift (as best as I can tell from chassis to axle height), rear roll bar.

Im a Harley mechanic by trade so mechanical stuff is a cinch, but this will be my first project with more than 2 wheels! Ive already started tearing into the motor and have pulled the radiator, trans cooler, PS pump, Alt, etc. All the wiring has to go. Insulation was flaking off in my hands while I was trying to disconnect stuff. Lots of stuff is beyond repair but some can be saved. Since Im a bit of a scrooge when it comes to lettin loose my hard earned $$$$, Ill be saving as much as possible. However, I do plan a few upgrades.

I do have some questions and I would love input from any and all!

1) Wiring harnesses: Ive looked at the Centech and Painless. Is there a logical reason the painless is more than double the Centech? Im not afraid to skimp on quality, but I gotta know why.

2) Kick Down rod: The previous owner has no clue what Im talkin about when I asked if he removed it. Just says, "Its always done fine with me." Do I actually need one? How critical is it? Where can I find one? and is a cable kit just as good?

I know Ill have more questions and hope yall dont mind holding my hand too much! lol!!

Hi Bloodwulf.., welcome..!

I would say, don't be in a big hurry with the small wires. You could clean-up & tape some.., maybe repl. the big cables if bad. Meaning you could re-wire later.

I believe there's 3 major wiring kits available now. Research them all.

The kick-down (aka passing gear) is a good thing to have however, some carbs aren't set-up for them.

The cable/floor shifters are fine. They don't operate the kick-down though.

Talk to TomsBroncoParts .... or .... WildHorses4x4 -- they have what you need.

Great project...!! You're in for a lot of fun/good times..!!

Hey BW, welcome.

The painless harnesses are very well done. See the post above yours in the recent post section regarding the Centech products. You get what ya pay for, and I for one would rather do other stuff than hunt down a wiring problem that the new harness was supposed to be the answer to.

All told looks like a fun project.

Good Luck

Well, heres an update on the huntin wagin. I got the intake, exhaust, and heads off the block and found.... LOTS of rust. :(/> I honed some of it out and it doesnt look like its too deep. However, the current pistons are already 40 over so if another 20 doesnt get it all out, the block is toast. I havent pulled the block yet to inspect the cam, crank and journals but Ill be getting the engine hoist from work this week to do so. And, while the block is out, might as well send the C4 and tcase to someone to give a once over.

Moving on, I started to pull the main tank out. However, I found out that someone decided that the reese hitch needed to be WELDED to the frame instead of just bolted in. Sooo.... out comes the grinder so I can wack it off. Got that out of the way and pulled the skid plate. NOW I get to pull the tank and discover...

Yup... big ol hole! This would be under the left side front cushion. Not a real big problem since I wanted to upgrade it to the 23gal tank anyway. Just gotta pull the aux tank now and see if it can be saved or if I have an excuse to replace the entire fuel system from one end to the other. lol!!

Att his point, I was tired of laying on my bag with lots of dirt and rust falling in my face so I decided to start looking at the inside. Took the right door off and started pulling pad. Well, as to be expected, the floorboard is rusted really badly. Basically both floorboards, from firewall to bed, will have to be replaced. So im kinda gettin the feelin that by the time im done ill have a brand new 2013(2014?) Bronco! LOL!! Check back for more updates as more stuff gets pulled off and tossed! :D/ >

im in the same boat. just picked up a 72 few weeks back. the wiring wasnt to bad for me, mostly disconnected wires causing things not to work. there are plenty of sites that show a detailed description of the wiring harness. just try to take your time with everything.
