So, today is the first full day with my new to me 82 Bronco. A couple of things;

When I first took off, I noticed the accelerator was sticking so I wd 40ed it up and also the springs on the carb. Problem fixed...howevr when I take off initially, the motor bogs down until let off the gas and it goes back to normal. What can cause this? I will be using this as my daily driver and want to get it done within a week or so. Should i get the carb adjusted? This truck has been sitting for two years with the previous owner not turning it on very often.

Found a few dirt dobber nests under the air cleaner, oil was low, tranny fluid low. I'll be flushing both of them next week.

Any suggestions on what I should do seeing as how its sat for so long? Thanks in advance...seykbron

yo,

Can you ID the type and make of the carb?

Carb ID by Pony Carburetors, Inc @ http://www.ponycarburetors.com/default.asp?page=identification

more info in my site @ http://www.broncolinks.com/index.php?index=204

Go through some of this;

Hesitation During Acceleration Troubleshooting Chart (carburetor)

Source: by Recarbco Fuel Systems http://www.recarbco.com/technical/newtrouble.html#Hesitation

Vacuum Leak Test; On an idling engine check for vacuum leaks using a mechanic's stethoscope with the probe removed, or a ~3' garden hose section. BEWARE of fab, belts, pulleys and hot engine/hoses.

On COLD ENGINE only, use propane torch w/rubber hose attached, UNLIT (have fire ext @ hand for all tests)

or spray carb cleaner, when it gets to the the leak the RPMs will rise.

Also check: vacuum hoses; intake manifold gasket & throttle body;

read more on ths in my post here @ http://broncozone.com/topic/22770-low-idle/

GL!

Thanks for the info..Im having a problem understanding where I should be putting the stethoscope? Or the hose section. The Eegr "can" is pretty nasty, but no hissing. It runs real good after it warms up, except the idle drops tremendously when in drive.

Also found out the temp gauge doesn't work, and in these hot Texas summers, need to get that taken care of..

Ill get the tag number off the carb, it is a 2bbl....Going to rebuild the carb next sunday(22nd), it will be my first time, so I will probably be on here for questions if it doesnt work out. Should I go with a kit from AZ or buy one from the dealer?

yo,

Place hose along vac lines, and where they connect to a component such as the HVAC & emission vac tanks, Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister (check thoroughly, they rot along bottom)

Buy a kit from NAPA, O'Reilly, Adv Auto, etc
