Ok people I need help with this one. My husband died April 2005 and he always handled all of the truck problems. I bought a 1990 Bronco about a month ago for my daughter because that was what her and her father discussed on getting her. The bronco drove fine for about 2 weeks then last week it made this awful roaring sound ( my daughter Shelby said it sounded like one of them fast and the furious cars racing the motor ) but if you put it in neutrul reve the motor then put it back in drive it would be fine for awile then it would start all over again. Shelby's grandfather says he believes it might be the transfer case. Any suggestions or help would very much be appreciated because Shelby really wants this bronco.

Thanks

Donna

Not the transfer case, that has nothing to do with the engine racing unless it is engaged. This sounds like your transmission is slipping or has a gear that has gone out. I have seen this a couple times in my dad's 73 F250. It races, then you let off the gas, it catches then you can go again. That is when it it time to have the transmission rebuilt or put a new one in.

If you just bought it, I would go to the person who sold it to you and tell them about it. See if you can get a little of your money back because a new or rebuilt tranny will run close to $1200.
