i think i've found the source of my "exhaust leak" on my 1996 5.0 bronco. part of the EGR system looks like it blew apart some time ago and that has been what has been making noise, spewing carbon from the exhaust all over the firewall, etc. i did some googling and it appears that this is pretty common but i can't really tell what needs to be replaced exactly.. anybody have any experience with this type of problem? i haven't been able to find a good diagram or anything like that yet so i don't know exactly how it all goes together but as far as i can tell that hose should be attached to that coupling.

I had same one blow out due to rust 3 yrs ago; sounded like I had a cracked exh manifold or pipe.

See this diagram to confirm; I am outside and da glare on da screen is killing my eyes
