The exhaust heat shield on my 96 has come loose due to rust. It cannot be reattached. If it is removed must I reinstall a new one or is there some other option? Can I just pull it out and forget about it?

Thanks for the help!

If you are talking about the one that is attached to the body above the muffler, it's function is to prevent the floor boards from getting too hot. If you just get rid of it, run the engine a while and see how hot the floor gets. You may want to add a heat reflective blanket under the rug. They keep the truck cooler in the hot weather and warmer in the winter. Without the one I have in mine, the floor gets real uncomfortable to the touch from the exhaust heat. It is reflective on both sides, has a silicate fiber between the layers and was originally designed for the floor boards in racing vehicles.

Good luck,

:)>-

Hey All -

Schweet! Thanks for the help. I'm going to start by chucking the heat shield, see how it goes and, if needed, apply one of the suggested solutions.

I really do appreciate the feedback.

Thanks!

Walker is a great OEM replacement company. Walker is who i generally order from for all of my customers exhaust needs. decent pricing and quick to ship. and heat shields are needed for the exact reason seabronc stated. and hey seabronc.....did you run into any issues laying the carpet down? did you lay new carpet or the pre-molded stuff?
