Engine makes popping sounds

I have a 86 bronco 302 EFI. My question is as I accelerate there is popping in the throttle body what could cause this? I changed the upper intake gasket last month and now this has started. It is not like a backfire out the exhaust. Any help will be greatly apprececiated.

Are you sure it is coming from the throttle body? A snap like sound often comes from either a cracked exhaust manifold or blown exhaust manifold gasket.

A possible problem could be the EGR being defective
