Engine Computer Upgrade?

:blink: I was just over at super ford and saw a guy that had put a '95 computer into his '83 Bronco. Looking at the pics he's running a V-6, is there any benefit to doing this swap?

Perhaps fuel economy is his purpose. I don't sell the V6 short, theyare a gutsy engine. so if a strait 6 with standard shift is a good off road engine, perhaps a V^ with standard would work as well or better. He probably made some changes to give it more torque. Just some thoughts

Also, Ford started using MASS AIR on there trucks in '95. The MAF system supports more, and better performance upgrades over the SPEED DENSITY system, besides firing the injectors only on the compression stroke per cylinder, instead of 4 injectors on each stroke will give better MPG.

This is a popular upgrade for pre '95 EFI trucks. A truck to truck swap is very difficult, and not a good recommendation, but...if you can find a '88-'93 mustang for cheap, it will be a direct swap(add some rewiring), with every thing you need. I picked up a 'wrecked '89 at the auction for $400, and the swap is in the near future.

Think about it...fat cams, better intakes, bigger throttle bodies, bigger injectors, superchargers, and the list goes on, and on.

i dont know what kind of motor or year of bronco you have but if it is not FI it does not have a computer. if you have a 351 you have no computer if it is before 1988. 302 has coumputer for several years before that. make shure you have a computer and not just ignition box.

If you go to "MY CONTROLS" you can place your truck info on the note pad. This info is very helpful in getting replies. It will always show up like Seabroncs, and mine

If you can Find a Donner EFI truck swapping to EFI ain't hard. pretty much a plug an play setup. Your best bet is to find a Bronco or Truck with EFI and manul tranny since your tranny ain't computer controlled. I'm gettin ready to swap my 86 302EFI SD system for a MASS air flow 351w from a 85 F150.

You've already got a slot in your firewall that'll hold a SD computer, you'll have to trim some for the MASS computer. It's not as hard as some think.

Tex, someone must have already swapped that '85 F150 to MAF, because Ford didn't start using it on the trucks until '95("94 in CA), not counting the LIGHTING. The '95 MAF computer is 106 pin, the pre '95 Broncos, and Mustangs use the 60 pin computer, only 3 wires to reconfigure here.

Hmmm, I swear to god that the EEC-IV system on my 300 I6 in my '87 F150 is a SD computer. I also know that when I went to replace the computer the EEC-IV also had a MAF Computer so I had to be VERY careful in my selection for the computer I got. In '87 the SD and MAF was put into effect halfway through the production cycle of that year.

That's as much as I know about MAF and SD computers on Ford trucks though...
