Effect of Broken ECT

I took my intake hoses off the clean the plug on my ECT and found that half the sensor was broken off. I know the ECT is the engine coolant temperature sensor, but what effect would it have on the vehicle if it was broken? Would it cause a lag or running rich in any way?

If it is broken, yes it will cause your computer to run the engine rich. If it causes the computer to think the engine is cold the computer will enrich the mixture.
