I have a 91' 351 e4od. It was running great. I walked out started motor. Check engine light came on. Motor idled up high and rough. Pouring black smoke, running very rich. Tried to check codes. but the light never blinked. I attempted to drive to shop to have codes checked. Thats when I discovered that I was stuck in overdrive. I can manually put in 2nd gear but not 1st gear. Can not turn off overdrive. Since both these problems occured at same time. Could it be the eec-iv having a problem?

Thank you for the response. I tried checking codes first by jumping and by using a code reader. It is not going into selftest mode and not putting out signals for codes. I think maybe the transmission control may have shorted the computer. Like you said it might be in some kind of default mode. Still can't figure why I can not manually put it in 1st to take off.

Well, installed re-manufactured computer. Everything is back to normal. Thx anyway.

OK, you can still check the DTC yourself @ home and get back here w/any Codes you find to narrow it down.

I'll be away for a day or so, so if you find a DTC look here for some possible causes and fixes

Also, are you sure the E4OD is running in OD?...i f it is in 2nd, it could be in Limp Mode; which can be caused by a number of diff sensor/wiring/or connector faults; still you can find the DTC and narrow it down without spending $$$ on parts swapping adventures.

GL!
