Getting a new exhaust tomorrow. Probably going to run a flowmaster 40 series.. looking for a deep purr. I want something I can notice, but yet isn't loud by any means.

Anywho, but it got me to thinking.. say I did a true dual setup.. and for state emissions they did their sniff test. What if I had the two pipes dumped shortly after the muffler (so you can't see the pipes on the truck)..and when I went in to do my sniff test, I strapped on a temp pipe behind the back tire for them to slide their sniff tube onto..

that being said, how would that effect the readings?? In reality.. the truck is only throwing out gases from 4 of the 8 cyl...

Just an interested question someone may be able to answer ^_^ /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Adam, are you serious?

What state are you in? Would the inspectors really not catch that?

My bronco has a flowmaster sing. in /dual out....sounds great! Nice purr at idle and easy axceleration, Deep snarl at WOT.

well over here in norway they usualy test all wehicles..

and most of the test machines have the possebilety to test 2 pipes at the same time.

so running a true dual shoud be no problem.

and if the shop where you test yours only have equipment to test one.

there shoud be nothing stopping them from testing both pipes?

its as simple as running 2 tests

Get the truck registered in a state that doesn't require such a test and see what happens????

It can be done if you are military or live on a state border assuming the other state doesn't do the test.

I run duel Thrushes, sounds great. Loud enough to know I have the tree fiddy one but not so loud to actually wake the locals.... I have to look into this myself as I move out to VA. (My wife asked; "Is that 'thing' gonna pass emissions testing?") SUV, MPV, I kind of like he calling it that thing.

I may have not been clear.. I mean a true dual system, but the day of my test, I clamp on my stock tube that dumbs out behind the back tire. So exhaust gases are still exiting out of the tube and flow is being pushed into the test machine. BUT I doubt they would crawl under the truck to see the dump pipe for the 2nd exhaust just behind the axle.

The real question is tho - If they did do this.. would the numbers be lower because the exhaust is only pushing off 4 cylinder exhaust fumes per pipe (the pipe only visuable and used for inspection)?

My truck passed with flying colors a year ago..and I expect it to pass next year with no issues. But it was just something I was curious about.

Fla. doesn't have any testing, so I was confused about what you had to do.

sorry.

The test should be on percentages not volumn....so I would think it wouldn't matter if ther were sniffing only one pipe.

Do you really think that could fool an inspector, maybe if he is deaf and blind :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> . Come on, the machine does expect to read something. If you have to have the test, you have to do what is required to pass it.

Good luck,

:)>-

I don't know about your state, but here, I am required to test the exhaust from both pipes at the same time. In the case you suggested, Here is what would happen here:

1: I would fail it for missing exhaust

2: I would fail it for dumping under the passenger compartment, which would give you a 48hour failure, meaning it has to be fixed within 2 days or the police can impound it if they see you driving with a HUGE red sticker on it. (gotta love jersey...anything to get one over on us

)

I hate jersey! I used to live in Mount Holly.

I'm not so much seeking what would happen per say.. I'm asking what the number readings would come out to be, reading off one of the two true dual exhaust pipes.

If the pipes connect, anywhere in the system, x-pipe, h-pipe, whatever, it should come out pretty close to a dual pipe reading. But most states don't realize this, thus the 2 pipe reading....

Hmm makes sense.. didn't think of it that way with the x pipe setup
