Whats up? Great site, I just joined. I have a 93 explorer and was thinking on upgrading the drivetrain. I am fixing to aquire a blown 302 engine and need some help on deciding on a trans and transfer case. I want something heavy duty, in the way of a manual trans and good transfer case. I plan to replace the front IFS with a 4 link and straight axle and rear also with a 4 link and coilovers. I could figure the axle kinds and ratios later. I would appreciate any suggestions. By the way how do 40s sound?

Look for an NewProcess205 transfer case (gear driven) and an NP435 4-speed manual. For the front axle, either a Dana 44 or D60, and replace the factory Ford8.8" rear with a D60, D70 or GM 14-bolt. That will handle 40's, but will require some fabrication of mounting hardware.

If you watch the T.V. show

Extreme4X4 on Spike (TNT), they're building a Ranger pick-up cab and chassis into a desert race truck. The dudes at

HorsepowerTV built them a 375 HP stroker 302 to go under the hood. Might give you some ideas as to the work involved!!!
