Yes, the part holding the striker to the B-pillar will usually fall down behind the panel when you remove it. JSM84

yo!

Are you replacing the Striker bolt Bushing? Like this (pic from our MAIN SPONSOR HERE, Jeff's BRONCO GRAVEYARD)

80DOORSTRIKER.JPG

If so, Watch out for the Dorman HELP brand stuff now....the driver/passenger door striker kit w/ bushings, 38445 are not fffin good..bushing diameter is way off and striker frame is off as well....it will bolt-in, but aligning it for a no-rattle fit is efffin a waste of time and possible damage to passenger or driver. the Dorman HELP tail gate striker bushings pn 38424 are a good fit & the door bushings driver/passenger bushings are incl. in this kit & fit better than the 38445 part

Also, the striker's bolt is adjustable -

on my 96 and most from 92 there is a "retainer" inside the B pillar that will hold the bolt's "nut" in-place while you replace da bushing.

In case the retainer is rusted out and da nut falls down, look for a small access hole behind the side panel's plastic sheeting just fwd of da speaker. The nut will be under the shoulder belt's reel under some loose insulation. While there, inspect dome light wiring for fraying or cuts...etc.

I place masking tape around the striker's frame so that when I re-install the assy. it is close to where it was originally.

To remove the assy, use a #50 Torx socket

The striker frame is my problem. When the pass door is closes it still moves up and down on the latch. I've moved it all over the place and it makes no difference. I've measured it and it seems to be the same as the drivers. When you go over a *** hole the pass door jumps up and down.

Can't say for sure, but that sounds more like a problem with the latching mechanism in the door. To me it sounds like it is not closing properly on the striker post.

Good luck,

:)>-

First let me say thanks for all the help. I don't know how many time I looked at the driver side then the passenger to compare them. Measured the latch position, moved it and so on. Well my ******** didn't even notice the bushing on the passenger side latch post was not even there. DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Miesk5's photo finally jarred me to reality. Typical guy thing. Just show me the pictures!

Man getting old ain't for *****'s!

Found the whole latch post assy at AutoZone for 8 bucks. They also have the bushing in a set of 4 for 5 bucks. But only one of the bushings in the set was the right size.

Door latches like new again.

Mike..good!

btw I mentioned that da Dorman HELP striker bushings pn 38424 are a good fit ..

If it is the 38424 set, then save the other bushings for your tail gate striker.
