I have knocked out the studs. i got the passenger side off with a set of small punches and screwdrivers tapping them in four spots all at once. this didnt take 5 min and it was off. I tried the same thing on the driverside. broke a punch, and hammerd a screwdriver thru its handle. the hub i removed had some minor damage from some kind of off road impact. the bolts for it had to be drilled out inorder to remove it. could it be possible the spindle may be tweaked? the hub still worked, locked in and out. looking at the back of the passenger spindle was very clean shiny metal. it was mostly rusted in the center where it slides in. ill soak it more and try again later. thanks for all the help

I would make sure the bearing sufraces and locknut threads are not damaged, not sure what you mean by "tweaked"? If the hub area is bent or out-of-round, it should be replaced. In the pic you posted, is that some metal shavings or filings all on the outside? That would come from a bad bearing.

hooray it came off! I used a duct knife and hammered it in between destroing the knife in the process, but it worked. as soon as it was out the diff came right off. just like everyone said. it was cleaned with brake cleaner, and welded spider gears to themselves then to the carrier. tommarow ill reinstall. i'll be sure to post some pics on the welds for others to see. the axles move but they are a bit tighter now i hope i didnt cook anything in the process. thanks again for all the input you guys are awesome :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

With the front being locked now, you'll get good at changing out the broken axleshafts and u-joints. If you have manual hubs, leave one unlocked when in 4WD if you have to make any turns. then when you really need the traction from both tires, simply climb out and lock that hub. It's easier for me to leave the passngr-side hub locked, and work with the driver's side. So glad you got those spindles taken off!!! JSM84
