I have a 95 ford bronco with touch buttons to engage and disengage 4 wheel, unfortunately my husband drove it last and left it in 4 wheel low I have not moved my truck in about a month and decided to take it out today. The truck will not disengage out of 4 wheel low I have rocked it back and fourth so many times and it will not disengage. I do feel it shifting as I shift geers I'm not sure if anything is still frozen since our temperature has been a bit frigid here in

NY suggestions before I go spend a fortune. Thanks

My bronco is not push button but try turning it on then shifting the transmission into neutral. Then press the 2 high button. If the 4 low light turns off then drive it in reverse a few feet. That should disengage the the 4x4. So you can drive in 2 wheel drive. Like I said mine isn't a push button but I've used other vehicles that were and that seemed to work. Hope this helps.

It could be cold that is slowing things down. You might need to drive it a bit in 4 low to warm up the fluid in the tcase. Then as stated put the truck in neutral and have your foot on the brake, and try for 2hi if the 4x4 light goes out then you should be out of 4wd you will just need to move backward about 10 feet to disengage the hubs.

The other possibility is that the motor on the transfer case has either burned out or has become disconnected.

Welcome to the Zone > . Post some pictures when you get a chance and add your trucks vitals to your signature, it helps with some questions.

Like monch915 said, I have manuals, but the book says 10 ft. I hear you about the cold weather in NY. My truck has never failed me but she does grumble a bit about getting up when it is in the low teens ans single digits out :-& .It could be that the grease in the hubs is so thickened up by the cold, it won't let go. Of course that should be warmed up after driving a while so you might want to wait till you have driven a while to warm the hubs up with the heat generated from the brakes.

Good luck,

:)>-

this is same as your year;

Ford Four Wheel Drive System Excerpt from Bronco/F Series Owner's Guide in a 96 Source: by Ford via BroncoJoe19 at Ford Bronco Zone Forums

If that doesn't open (my Lap top's error message says it can't open it in MS PAINT altho it is a pdf file)

Look @ entire 96 Owners Guide for 4x4 op

see PAGE 196

Most of this has been covered by the above psoters, but...

4x4 SYSTEMS-TOUCH DRIVE

To shift from 4x4 LOW RANGE to 4x4:

Stop the vehicle and place the automatic transmission into NEUTRAL or depress the clutch on vehicles with a manual transmission.

Push the LOW RANGE button on the instrument panel to shift the transfer case from 4x4 LOW RANGE to 4x4

At extremely low temperatures, it may be necessary to slow down or even stop to shift

see pages 6 and 10

on page 10;

"...It may seem strange to say this, but you should ask the owner/operator if this was the first time the vehicle was ever shifted into 4L. Many vehicles are purchased and operated for considerable periods of time before a shift to 4L is made. The problem may a be a defective part that was there from the beginning.

If the vehicle is brought to the shop in 4L with the report that it won’t shift back to 4H, your first check is to follow the proper sequence of being stopped and having the vehicle in neutral (or clutch in) when

pushing the switch. If this doesn’t do the trick, check the 4L switch and the motor position sensor..."

MIESK5 NOTE; Above also includes not op the 4Low for a long period of time.

WOW Thanks everyone I was kindof in a panic yesterday but today is another day. My actuator was stuck- after hitting it a few times and driving a short distance it finally came out of 4 wheel low. Appreciate the response.
