man since prices of gas has shot up it seems alot of people are interested in diesel conversions for broncs. a diesel conversion for these trux is costly time consuming and expensive unless you have a donor truck and deep pockets full off $$$$$. first off a diesel is much heavier than a typical gas motor. a diesel weighing in at around 1000lbs and a big block 460 comes in at around 500lbs. so first off the stock suspension will not hold the weight of the diesel. the front will be squatted down and the a@# end will be way up in the air. so the front suspension will have to be modified. that means bigger axles like a dana 60 or a dana 50 ttb. on top pf that the coil springs from the factory wont hold the weight either. so that means leaf springs ofr some really good coil springs. secondly, the frame of a bronco is a shortened f150 frame (this info came from bronco bill, kudos to him by the way). this means its less rigid and not as thick as a 250 or 350. the best way to attempt this is to have a 350 donor truck, shorten the frame and mount the bronco body to the shortened frame. that way all the suspension, frame support and proper axles are already in place. this is much easier but if your determined to go straight off a bronco the frame needs to be beefed up and some suspension mods need to take place. Just Shoot Me 84 did a trick leaf spring set up that would do the trick so you might want to look at how he did his and go off it. other than that its all making motor mounts for the diesel and maybe a crossmember and mounting it to the trans. the more support the better since the torque of a diesel will twist the frame and thats expensive. whew ok i think i left something out but after this i need a smoke. good luckan
