7.3 Liter turbo diesel, if it fits. I would stick with a ford diesel maybe even a 6.0l. I saw a diesel bronco before in a junkyard, the engine was stripped down but you could tell by the plug in the side.

I put a 6cyl. Cummins in my '85. Check out my gallery. I went with the Cummins because it doesn't have glow-plugs, is lighter, uses 30% less parts, and is narrower. Also the 6bt Cummins is unbelievably stout and long-lasting! In hind-site I would have converted it to manual (5 or 6spd)- due to the MASSIVE wiring issues involved in a swap of that nature. If you must have an auto, a 727 TF or turbo 400 will work with that motor. The only real frame mods you gotta do is that if you wanna run the stock Cummins A/C compressor, you have to notch the TTB support beam. Go to Ford Cummins. There's alot of info there. Good luck!! Mine was awesome!!!
