Over this weekend I was out on some logging roads (gravel and dirt), no extreme four wheeling. A friend went to move my Bronco that night and set the high idle that I've never used before. For whatever reason it wouldn't come off. After almost a full carb re-build in the woods with minimal tools. We found a piece of plastic that had the secondaries stuck open. This was causing really high revs after start up, but once the plastic was removed it was fine. The next morning I started leaking coolant and found the thermostat stuck closed. Removed the thermostat and got ready to hit the roads with the rest of the group. After a few hours of perfect running it started to flood again. Seems to be coming from the secondaries again. What would happen is the idle around 900rpm wasn't enough to keep the motor running once engaged into gear, it would bog down and die. To limp it home we set idle to 1800 and I would roll into the throttle as the motor would die and it would lug then once up to speed run fine. I don't know if any of these other issues will help with diag, but they all happened within 24 hours after the high idle/plastic issue. I can't think of any other helpful info at this point. Any ideas what would cause the motor to die when shifted into gear?
p.s. I'm going to be changing my flex plate. Anything else I should do while I have the transmission off? Kind of a while you're at it?
