Ive got a 79 with the 460 conversion it it. It starts and runs fine and i can red line it no problem at all. but if im driving i cant accelerate quickly without it dieing on me and whenever i hit bumps it dies out... but i found that if i hit the gas and accelerate while going over the bump it doesn't die every time...

I actually have one ordered....its supposed to be here tomorrow....but my uncle said that that didn't sound like a carb problem and he said he recalled some of the older fords having a problem like that with one of their control modules or something along those lines....but he wasn't to sure but he said it didn't sound like something that the carb would cause....hes been a mechanic for 30 some odd years now...and he used to race and all the cars he raced were carburetors....so i dunno he said it might be the carb though...

i'd say carb problem as for not being able to accelerate fast without it dying...as for bumps its a possibility it could be the "brain" which is located on the driver side? wheel well

id say it was the carb.. if it was the ecm it USALLY wont run at all.. but from what you wrote id say that your exelerator valve is not adjusted corectly and neither are the floats.. you never did say what the carb was or what its off of..

New carb was waiting for me when i got home from work. Got home put it in...ended up taking a lot longer than anticipated....It doesn't die over bumps but it really needs to be tuned i guess....if i hit the gas hard it dies. but if i get it rolling to about 10 and put the pedal to the floor it takes off....but this is my first time ever playing with a carb....so i don't really know what im doing to much...i was gonna try calling Holley tomorrow cause i read on another site that it will prob need different sized jets or something and maybe one of the springs...

oh yeah i got a Holley Truck Avenger 770 cfm

But now the solenoid went out....and auto parts stores aren't open till 12:30.... <_<

if you can find someone who knows holleys try to have them tune it...it can get tricky..if not try contacting holley and asking them about it..good luck

idano bro im starting to think timing is playin a role here... do you have a aftermarket cam? what kind?? if you have a steep cam profile then MAYBE it starvin for fuel at full throttle?? (im guessing) but if it doesnt do it at 10 mph im thinking its timing.. try tuning it a few degres +/- and see what you get..

keep us posted...

oh yea as for tunning the holley all you should have to do on that for your bronco (unless you for some reason have a heavyr than normal truck) is set the idle mixture screws..

if you carry a lot of tools or whatever you might wana stiffin up the vacume secondary other than that... u should b good

Well i think my secondaries may not be opening soon enough...I'm guessing that my secondaries are kicking in around 10 or so cause once i hit that i can put the pedal to the floor...but before that it will just die...or come really close to dieing....why would you have the secondaries open later on a heavier vehicle?

ok heres how it works lets say you got a 4000 pound truck and the secondaries are opening when they are suppost 2 (at 3/4 to full throttle and little to no vacuum) well you put that same motor, carb, tranny in a heavy truck say 5500 pounds you going to be losing vacuum right off throttle and therefor kicking in he secondaries sooner.. soooooooo if you put it in a light truck say 3000 pounds especialy with a big block and its able to toss the truck around without brakin a sweat so vacuum never drops and the secondaries never open or open late...i think that came out right... im not sure if your 770 came with it but when i orderd my 670 it came with a little lighter spring.. id try that and maybe ****** the timing a few degs.

Yeah i tried the lighter spring and it seemed to help but its still a bit sluggish....I'm thinking i should probably just call Holley...Ive heard good things about their support team...

carbs are a biotch sometimes, edelbrocks are easiest but i have a holly on my racecar and had the same problem, sounds like you just need to have it adjusted properly, turn BOTH the small idle screws in all the way and then out about 2-2 1/4 turns, then start the truck, slowly turn them in one at a time tho...as you turn the screws in eventually the truck will start sputtering, running rough, and choking out. So when that happpens stop there, and turn the ***** back out 1/4 turn. Do the same with the other side, and the rev it up a few times to make sure everything full and pressurized, and take it down the street, it should haul ass after that

Yeah thats exactly what my uncle told me...But right now i think my problem is being cause by all the random vacume lines that are just laying around th engine bay...that dont go anywhere or are just cut or have holes...

yeah vaccume lines can cause stalling, either plug them off or put them where they are supposed to go and see what happens
