Purchased 2 used front drum spindles off Ebay for my 68 Bronco. (DANA 30)  These spindles were different than the ones on the Bronco as they use I believe a pressed in seal.  The original spindles from the roller bearing side are more shallow than the ones I purchased.   I believe I read that around yr. 72-1/2 there was a change in spindle design and seal structure.  I am trying to find out what seals and other component will work with the these spindles.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi x1.., welcome..!

Mid year '71 the factory went to the dana 44 which had a different spindle.

It sounds like that's what they sent you.

I don't think these spindles are interchangable. (I think they're returnable on Ebay beings they're wrong.)

What was wrong with your original spindles..?

I am doing a complete rebuild on a 68 bronco and the original spindles were completed rusted and very pitted.  The original spindle and the new one have all the same dimensions except for seal area.  I was told that some spindles used a spacer, press in seal (pressed in spindle housing), and slinger.  Others used bearing seal, spacer, V seal (slid over the slinger)

All D-30's -and- '71 thru '72 1/2 D-44's spindles had the "outer axle seal"  pressed into the back of it.

'72 1/2 thru '75 don't.  The seal is on the outer axle seal ******, which is pressed onto the outer axle itself.

You may have talked to www.Wildhorses4x4.com  They have a way to make the ones you purchased work.

I polished my ('66) spindles with a wire-wheel & they looked great. Only three surfaces are critical.

That is; where the inner & outer bearings set..., & the seal lip area should be clean.
