I have 38.5x14.5x15 tsl sx's. I am looking to have enough clearance for light trails with minimal lift. My plan is a 4inch suspension and cut out fender flares. Down the road I may add a body lift if I need more clearance.

So. Since I am a tight ass can I just cut 2 inches out now and put the flares on down the road or are they realy precise on where you cut? I was hopeing to just measure 2 inches around the existing wheel arch, cut it and roll it a bit for now and add the flares in later.

If anybody nows the exact cutting I would need to do that would be great.

Next ?. Has anyone ever used the cheap steel re-enforced rubber flares? How well did they work and look. I thought they would possibly hold up better, plus be cheaper to replace if they took any damage.

Thanks in advance.

To get through inspection in NJ i had to have fender flares on my truck, I got these, I got them precut for the fender openings but for your application you should get a roll of it and cut it yourself. They looked pretty good for the price and the wire was stiff enough to keep them nice and straight, only complaint I had is at the ends of the flares at the bottum of the fenders curled inward because if laid flat the flare would be straight and as you know our fenders pull in. They did the job though and thier cheap

Got the flares. You only need to cut out about an 1 1/2 to get them to fit but you can cut up to 3-4 inches out if needed due to rust and still bolt them up. They fit great. I got them through th graveyard and they were here in three days.

BTW, 38.5x14.5 clear just fine with just flares, granted I need to get the lift in before I go wheeling.

out of curiousity, why go cheap?
I agree. After getting the bushwackers on and finaly seeing the cheaper ones in person I am glad I went the way I did. They are very durable and fit like a charm. Although I see a benefit to the cheap ones. It would be more affordable to replace those after a hard day on the trail, especialy if you dont care about the looks and just want to be legal.

exactly I went cheap just because it was a week before I had to go through inspection and I still needed flairs, then a week after going through inspection one was ripped off wheeling so I took all of em off, before I get my truck repainted I will get a set of bushwackers

if your going to do a 4 in lift, may as well just do a 6, its basically the same price, if you wont do that, and just want to do a 4 inch you can and just cut the fenders and roll them under, then attatch flares and it would look fine, i advise you tom do a 6 in lift and minimal cutting, my 79 f150 had 38 inch swampers on a 7 inch lift and cleared okay, could have used 3 more inches truthfully, just go with the 6 is what id say, you will be happier in the end
