My main interest is to avoid adjusting points, any other benefits will be great. I picked up a 1973 Bronco late last year and it has sat in my barn all winter. Now I'm going to try to set it up to run (for now) and be restored farther down the road. So I'm going to tackle the three parts of making a fire in the engine: fuel, air, and heat (spark). I'll start at the fuel tank and clean everything out and make sure the lines are good, I'll change the air filter and clean the carb., I'll change the plugs and wires to help the spark.

But rather than worry about points right now, what's an economical way to set up my engine (1973 302) to electronic ignition?

I saw this earlier thread: http://broncozone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1613

Can anyone recommend an online source for the Peronix Ignitor II, and (possibly) for the Flame-Thrower II coil?

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

I run an ignitor II in my 67 Cougar 289... the only thing that was done was pull the points and add the Ignitor module.

Been in the car for 3 seasons now with no problems at all.

great product and very easy to set up.

B) I own a 74 with a 302. Here is an easy solution. MSD makes a drop in ignition for 302 Ford engines. I also installed a Blaster II coil. The total cost was just under $300 and it took less than an hour. The MSD uses the wiring in your Bronco to make it easy. The only thing I did different was run a wire from the ignition switch strait to the coil to bypass the 8OHM resistor. The system will work with the resistor but more voltage means better spark. I installed this ignition system about 8 months ago and I'm still very pleased. You can also for about another $45 by a kit and change the curve of your ignition. This will help with gas mileage. Good luck!

In the long run ,I recommend an MSD Ignition box,MSD Dist, and coil.I believe you will be happier in the long run. That is what I ran on my '73,302.This setup gives you a more efficient burn, and more spark further in the crank rotation. If money is stopping you,I would definitely go with the Petronix system. You can change out the points with a module, like the other post suggested,or go one step better, and get the Petronix dist.I hate using 35 year old parts when its so easy to upgrade to new and better,

good luck.

In the long run, if you are going do do any wheeling with it, I would recommend EFI...Dont have to worry about the problems that come with having a carb and you have elec. ignition to boot... :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
