Hi,
I have a beat up 1987 bronco ll. I am 16 and wanted a project vehicle to learn how to fix cars and to drive a stick. It runs but it needs a lot of work, (No breaks, tep or gas gauges dont work, baseball size rust holes in the floorboard and sides). I am just running it around my back yard for now.
Anyway, a couple weeks ago I was running it and it stalled and when I tried to start it, it wouldnt turn over, It would come close but it would never make it. So I though it was out of gas,(gas gauge dont work) so I filled it up and tried angain, same thing. So I thought it
was the battery,I off roaded a min-van and jumped it and it started up, ran for a few mins and then died, did that a few times and then when you would turn the key half way you would get the lights and radio. When you would try to start it, everything shuts off, and It doesnt even try to turn over.
Last week a buddy of mine gave me a smaller battery (500CCA vs a 650CCA that was originally in it) it was charged and I dropped it in and hooked it up, samething would happen.
Today I got a new charger and I charged the big battery (650CCA) and the same thing would happen (When you would turn the key half way you get the lights and radio. When you would try to start it, everything would shut off, and it wouldnt even try to tun over)
Sometimes when your try to start it, everything will shut off, there is this deep 'chunk' noise on the passenger side and I loose all power, no lights or anything. I have to disconcte the battery for a min for things to come back. If you disconect it and come back in 20min It goes back to just not turning over.
I am confused as no-other right now.
I have been told that this could be a connection problem. I dont know where to start to fix this sense this is my first project car and I dont know alot about fixing them.
Sence it also could have run out of gas, is there something special I need to do with the electronic fuel injection?
I know this is a little confusing but any help what so ever would be great.
Thank, Chris
