Yep a Cobra is a good CB Radio I have one on Lay-Away for $60.00 at Wal-Mart. I have a McKinley right now that don't work worth a crap about twenty years old!! With CB Radio's you get what you pay for. You can pick up a Midland CB for about $30.00 on the cheap side. Some of the cheap Midland's are small and thin and can fit easy into yor truck. I had a Midland installed in the dash of my old 1987 Toyota truck that worked pretty good. It all depends on what you want and what you want to spend. My wife would have killed me iF I had paid for that Cobra out right. IF you have a Wal-Mart or K-mart that sells CB Radio's put one on Lay-Away. Not All stores sell them. Out of four Super Wal-Mart Stores here in and round Daytona Beach, Fla. only one sold CB Radios. Good Luck in your hunt.

Also my Cobra thats on Lay-Way has the Weather Alert button for the weather Bands and a built in speaker. Not all CB Radios have built in speakers. The Cheap Midland CB's don't have speakers and only have a plug for an EXT. speaker on the back.

Cobra's are good and unidens are good too. I would buy one that has a rotary channel selector, or a second power wire that is connected to constant battery. That way it will retain the channel you had on before you shut the truck off. Hope that helps

Mirror Mount and cable but paid 1/2 of what it was at the Radio Shack which isn't wroth crap anymore for parts!! You use to be able to buy any kind of radio/CB part there but not anymore.

Bigbronc, the thing about C-B radios is this...if want to start out with a real good one with legal max power from the get go it will be alot more than 100 bucks. If you going to modify them you have got to watch out some of them you cant modify. The Cobra classic 29 is decent its fairly low price and are highly tunable.I drove big truck for a few years and have a couple of cobras. If you go to any truck stop with someone with a CB,thertes almost allways a truckdriver broke and selling cheap. If youre going to modify one though, its usually illegal all of mine put out illegal power but if you want distance and clarity thats the reality of it . <)

I have never seen a NEW CB that doesn't transmit less than the legal maximum power.

Ihave had a RS CB and found it pretty good. It had the Weather Channels on it as well. Some RS's also have the 102" stainless whips which I have mounted on my spare tire rack. I have found the 102" whip to be a PITA as it hits everything. I now have a 4' base loaded antenna. I can't tell the difference between the two as far as Xmit and Rx.

Here are some helpful hints:

1. Cobra and Uniden are identical

2. Anything Midland and Maxon is junk

3. your top models are Galaxy, Connex, and Texas Ranger. However, you would be looking at spending at least $150 on any of those three brands, minimum.

4. Stay away from old 23 channel Radios

Since you are on a budget, Cobra 25LTD, 29LTD, or Uniden PC68 or PC78 are the best bet. Properly tuned and used, these radios will talk with the best any day of the week. Try finding a CB shop and see about used CB's. I have a Cobra 29 GTL that is over 20 years old and 40 channel that has never failed me. Cb's are great fun, enjoy! :)>-

Best way to find out what a good CB Radio is...go to truck stop...ask the truckers! They'll tell you...

I got a Kraco cb with a whip and it looks good. I got the radio from my grandfather and it has a lot of value to me.
