So, I've been working on getting my new Bronco up and running for a while now, and have come up against a few issues with the new carb I just put on it. It's a Holley 650 spreadbore with vacuum secondaries. I don't know which vacuum ****** to plug the vacuum advance into on the front of the carb, for one. There are two little ones; one being on the baseplate and the other coming from the primary metering block. Secondly, this thing has an electric choke. Do I plug in keyed 12v to it, or does it need just a signal, or what?

This thing has been kicking me in the ass for a month. I've already got a grand wrapped up in it, just trying to get it going. Just discovered that the ballstud on the old factory 2bbl carb is a part of the linkage, and is not removable. Now I have to either find a universal accelerator cable, or find a ballstud, which neither Murrays, Advance, Autozone, or Napa had.

you should have a wire that went to an electric choke on your old 2bbl, its the same wire you need for your new one, might have to change the connection but that is the wire you need for that.

as for the ball for the throttle linkage this is what should have come with the carb, ie in the box

no one else will have that ball except the carb manufacturers. if you need a new kit the whole thing is $17

also read the instructions that came with the carb, they will tell you how to have the vacuum secondaries set up.

good luck

Heh, this is a 400M from an 82 F250 in my 81 Bronco that came with a 300 Inline originally. The guy that owned the 400M before me ripped off all of the choke gear, and I can't seem to find an extra wire on the Bronco for a choke. Also, my new carb came on a built engine I bought to put in my Mustang, but ended up going injected, so no box or extra parts :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

for the choke wire get yourself a haynes manual and look at the wiring diagrams and they should point you in the right direction. look into both the wiring for the bronco with the 300, and then the wiring for the motor for the 400.

On my 79 wiring the electric choke wire comes off the the wires coming from the alternator, its a yellowy orange color ( very faded), the other wires go to the silver electronic control box on the passenger side fender.

and it looks like your best bet is to buy one of those kits I sent you a link to, also try an aftermarket parts supplier that might be able to just find the ball fitting you need from holley or someone. who knows maybe they have an extra kit laying around.

good luck

The original Ford choke voltage came from the stator winding of the alternator but that won't work with a new Holley. The stator voltage is 7V and the new Holley needs 12V switched voltage. It can be from any source that is only hot when the ignition switch is in Start or Run. I use the line to the ignition module that has 12V when the ignition is in RUN, see the attached diagram. The red lead that connects to the white with light blue hash marks.

Good luck,

:)>-

Awesome, that works perfect. Thanks!

I ended up going to a boneyard for a few small things and ended up finding a ball stud on a smashed up Capri, so I'm good there. Last thing left to do is bleed the brakes, throw on the new steering gearbox, and find a decent interior, and it will be back on the road!
