HI EVERYONE, i AM NEW HERE AND REALLY NEED SOME CARB HELP. I have 19985 full size bronco with a 351 windsor engine, 2 barrel carb. It says XLT on the side of the Bronco. I bought it for $350 because the owner could not get it to run. after some checking and putting it back together I discovered that the catalytic converter was plugged up solid. after replacing the converter i find the the engine just runs too rich which is most likely the cause of the converter plugging up. I changed the spark plugs and yes they were black from the rich fuel. My biggest problem is that i cannot find any adjustment on the carb to lean out the fuel mixture. Also the vacuum lines are a mess. I am unable to route them since I cannot figure out what is missing and what goes where. Yes there is a diagram on the front by the radiator but i am having a problem understanding it. pictures would really help. The engine runs good after it warmed up but is hard to start after sitting for a day. It is just sucking up too much fuel. it is not putting out black smoke or any smoke at all but one can smell the unburned fuel. I cannot let it run in the garage due to the rich fuel. So i am asking for a lot of help with all I have mentioned above. I greatly appreciate your help in advance thanks everyone. Jeff. P.S. I live in Salt Lake City Utah just in case anyone is local and willing to come over a help me out. Jeff :-"

The only adjustment on the carb as far as fuel air mixture is concerned is the idle mixture which will not help when off idle. After that it depends on ports, jets and the power valve. Any one of these can cause it to run too rich. You could rebuild it, but the rebuild kits don't address the problems caused by vacuum leaks. You might want to consider replacing the carb with a re-manufactured or new one, (not rebuilt). Here is a link to a write up that will help you understand your carb much better http://www.bob2000.com/carb.htm . As far as the cold hard start is concerned, a section of the vacuum system when working properly will fix that. You really need to understand what each part of the vacuum system does. It is not all for emissions. The functions are color coded on the diagram. The start and run portion is in Ornge. Post a picture of the diagram and someone or myself can go over it with you.

Good luck,

:)>-
