im trying to rebuild the carb on my cousins 85 bronco, its a 302 with a 2bbl carb

ive tried to look up a way to do this, but i couldnt find much, so i figured i would ask here

about 2 years ago the engine caught on fire, well the carb did anyways, the fire was put out before causing too much damage to anything else. well instead of trying to keep it running, my cousin bought another car and the bronco just sat. now his other cars engine locked up, hit a rock or something that punctured the oil pan, and he doesnt have the cash to get another, so im helping him get this bronco running again, first thing i did was take the carb off, cleaned everything, all the jets are cleared out, no needles are sticking.. but i cannot.. get these jet flaps to open, the bar they ***** to is corroded and will not move, so my question is what can i use to get it lose, ive tried wd-40, screwdriver, and a hammer, any other ideas?

thanks

also im going to have to clean out the gas tank, among other things to get this thing running, so im sure ill be on here pretty frequently, also thinking about getting another bronco of my own

first off, im not a carb man so use this trick on ur own risk..

what i have done in the past:

First use air and blast any gas fumes and shit away and make shure there are NO gas in the carb.

then take a small propane torch (propane soldering pen or something) and heat up the parts Carefully,

then imideatly hit it with a wd40 can or something other taht is realy cold when it exits the can.

This will first expand the parts then quickly shrink it, so any stuck parts may also loosen as a result.

PS: THIS TECHNIQUE MAY CAUSE CRACKS and shoud only be used as a last resort

and lastly agean: do it on ur own risk, im not gonna be responsible if anything breaks...

sounds more like a recipe for lots of fire. if you are going to try that trick get the carb well away from a vehicle or anything that could ignite as a result. I would say just get a plastic tub big enough to hold the carb, fill it with varsol or carbcleaner and submerge the carb in the tub for at least 12 hours. remove it from the tub take it more or less apart and blow out any remaining cleaner with an air gun, then let it sit and evaporate.

put it back together and back on the bronco, and presto should be unsiezed and cleaned. this would also be the perfect opportunity to do a carb rebuild.
