I HAVE A 1985 BRONCO 2 WITH A 2.8L MOTORCRAFT CARB (E57E-BA). I BOUGHT IT OFF ONE OF THE MECHANIC I WORK WITH AT STOCKBRIDGE FORD FOR A WINTER VEHICLE. MY PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN I GO TO GIVE IT GAS IT BOGS OUT AND WANTS TO STALL SO I LET OFF THE GAS AND IT STAYS RUNNING AND IDLES FINE BUT IF I PUSH DOWN SLOW IT REVS UP JUST FINE. THE TRUCK DID SIT FOR ABOUT A YEAR OR SO BEFORE I PICKED IT UP. I GOT IT HOME AND DID A COMPLETE TUNE UP (PLUGS, CAP, ROTOR, COIL, WIRES, REBUILT CARB) FILLED THE GAS TANK UP WITH SOME NEW GAS AND PUT GAS TREATMENT IN IT TO HELP THE OLD GAS THAT WAS IN IT. I ALSO FIXED THE CHOKE SO THAT IT WOULD OPEN UP PROPERLY AND IT STILL DOSE THE SAME THING. ALSO ALL THE VACUUM LINES SEEM TO BE SEALED SO IF ANYONE HAS ANY IDEAS LET ME KNOW.

I AM A PARTS MANGER AT A FORD DEALERSHIP SO IF ANYONE NEEDS HELP WITH PARTS OR INFO LET ME KNOW AND I WILL DO MY BEST TO HELP YOU OUT ANYWAY I CAN!!!

You might want to wait til all the old gas is used up, sounds like a bad gas problem (snicker) How much gas was in it? And what do you mean the vaccum lines are sealed?

I would suspect bad gas as well. drive it till it almost runs out then fill it back up. Faulty choke could also do the same, but lets hope its gas

That is typical of a problem with the accelerator pump. It could be one of two problems, bad diaphragm or the cam either needs adjustment or to be changed to one with a slightly different cut. I'd try adjusting the position of the cam first. It is probably shooting too much gas into the carb when you punch it. If you don't know where to look for these carb components, get a book on carbs to help you along. You can get them either at the library or a local book store.

Basically your carb idles on a small port that supplies gas when the plates are closed. When you punch it the accelerator pump gives a shot of gas to supply the demand while the throttle plates are opening and the jets are taking over. If it gives too large a shot of gas it boggs the engine down.

Good luck,

I didn't say it was a bad diaphragm. That was only a possibility, and now that I understand that you put a rebuild kit on it, I'm almost positive it is the accelerator pump cam or cam adjustment.

Also, if it works OK when you gently accelerate then that is even more convincing to me that the cam needs adjusting or to be changed to one with a different cut.

Good luck,

:)>-

YA I HAVE BEEN THINKING THAT MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT. I DID TAKE A LOOK AT IT LAST NIGHT AND SEEN THAT THE ROD WAS IN THE CLOSEST HOLE TO THE ACCELERATOR SO IF I DO ANY ADJUSTMENT IT WILL MAKE IT PUMP MORE. I COULD MAKE A SHORTER ROD IF I HAD TO

The mounting ***** for the cam usually allows you to move the cam position. I may have some information on that carb at home. If my brain is still functioning when I get there, I'll check on it.

Don't use all caps, that is the internet equivalent of yelling :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> .

Good luck,

first off I have to apologize, I had my thinking backwards on the accelerator pump. I checked my Holley information and basically this what they said, "If you are experiencing a bog or hesitation off idle it may be caused by a momentary lean condition when the carb goes from the idle throttle position to the main metering system". They give several possible remedies which involves changing cams and/or shooters but most likely all you need is to do the adjustment proceedure.

Good luck,

:)>-
