i have a 83 bronco with a 351w matted to a c-6 trans. was wondering if a AOD tranny swap was possible and what it would consist of. I heard that a AOD uses the same D21 gear pattern thats on my column already, is this true? Will my transfer case and crossmember still line up and do u think its a good upgrade or should i keep the c-6. looking for a few more mpg.

On the gear pattern Im goona say no , My 89 had an AOD and I put a C6 in it and there was just no way to have all the gears I could either have first or park but not both never got to investigate much but Im thinking its a length issue either with the tranny lever or the colum lever . If you do this you must also make very sure that the cable for the AOD is adjusted properly or it will burn the tranny up .

thanx 4 the info, i guess ill probably keep the c-6, does 9-11 mpg sound right on 31 inch tires though?

Its a 5000 lb truck what can you expect really we dont drive em for the milage /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
/emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />The AOD swap is possible, but I I would stick with the stronger C-6. The AOD housing/case is shorter than the C-6 as well. Your transfer case will bolt up to either tranny, but each one has a slightly different tail housing/ transfer case adapter, so you would need everything from the AOD, including the t-case shifter and linkage. Best mileage I can get from the 351W H.O.-C6 with 3.50 gears and 31" tures was 10.5-11.5 mpg. Best advice is to tune your carb and motor to it's best, as any vacuum leaks, carb issues or ignition problems will hurt your mileage.
