I just had the tranny flushed out in my 93 about 1,000 miles ago. I checked it the other day and it is already smelling burnt. Is this usuall? I hooked a scan tool up and got a excessive torque convertor slippage code. The truck shifts fine though. This is my first automatic tranny, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well if your getting a computer code for the slippage you must have an E4OD . On these trannies the overdrive clutch band is inside the torque converter and it can wear out especially if your trying to tow stuff with it in overdrive . I would say that it is probably time for a new one if the truck has alot of miles on it . My 95 is worn out and you cant even feel it shift into overdrive anymore just see the tach drop a bit . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

When you replace the torque converter make sure you get a drainable type. It will double the life of the tranny. Make sure you tell the mechanic you have one so it gets done. Thats why its best to do it yourself so you know its drained. Most shops will skip that step and tell you they did. When replacing fluid check it after it runs for a few minutes to get the correct level.

I think that i do need a new torque convertor, but i'm not sure which one to get. I do a little towing, offroading, and just normal driving. Should i just get a stock torque convertor, or is there something that is better to get. Where should i get one from?

im not sure where to get torge converters from but if you do get a stock torqe converter make sure that it is factory and not from like auto zone. i have bought major drivetrain pieces before from those discount stores but have always had to replace within a couple of months. get factory parts and thier still going. also when you install a torque converter make sure that there is alittle play in it if it is to tight it will burn the pump inside the trany
