A couple of days ago my truck died on the freeway. I took it home took the dizzy cap off and found that the rotor was not spinning, already knowing what it was i began to rip the motor apart, sure enough i found a broken and stripped cam gear (nylon) so i replaced the timing components set my truck to Tdc put the dizzy to number 1 and she won't start, i have fuel there is spark and it won't start, fuel pressure is at 40 psi in the rail, I've been trying to get my girl going for days now, double and triple checking timing, might i have missed something??? I thought i was 180 degrees off so just to check i spun the dizzy 180 degrees still nothing just back fires. Set it again with the dizzy to number 1 and all it dose is back fire, the only way i can get it to kinda want to run is if i pour gas in the throttle body (pumps and filter are new) could i have messed with something ?? Like a ground to the injectors or something?? help!! i don't want to junk her.

Hi BL ..., welcome..!

Naw.., with all that ripping, pulling, spinn'n & such., it's likely you're still not timed correctly.. <_<

First, insure that you're #1 cylinder is TDC on compression stroke

At this point, the timing mark on the crank pully should be on "0" TDC.

Then, insure that the rotor is pointing at #1 pin on the dizzy cap & #1 plug wire.

When it runs.., tune to proper advance. :D/

BTW.., was it runn'n smooth B/4 this gear went south..?

Prob. wouldn't hurt to test for timing chain slop while your at it. :-B

Frustration goes away instantly with a purrr'n engine..! >:D< <'>

IGN. KEY OFF.,IN NEUTRAL, turn the crank pully bolt with a long handle (breaker-bar) wrench back-n-forth, while watching the rotor in the dizzy. It should be almost instant. This (if chain is loose) may not be why it quit., but could be adding to the issue & a looming prob.

RU pulling #1 plug... putting finger over hole to find comp. stroke..?

If not.... do that.

Yes sir i am pulling number 1 plug. And i am putting my finger over the hole to feel compression. So if i do that and there's slack i should rip the motor apart again? Thank you for your help, Im on my way home now to tend to my baby girl.

Kewl....! that's a good thing... :)>- (ROTOR moves instantly)

If your spot on TDC #1 on compression & timing mark lines up with "0" on the pully/balancer.. rotor pointing to #1 dizzy pin & plug wire, & all wires are on the correct plug-to-dizzy cap., then it should run.

If not, there's some other issue with the ignition.

BTW., don't say "rip the motor apart" .... that just sounds scary on so many levels...

Not tring to sound rude but when you had the engine apart what exactly did you do? did you replace the timeing chain and gears ? when installing the gears did you line up the dots on the gears to where the cam dot was down the crank dot up and lined up exactly together ?

Elmo has a good point..,

ALSO; look'n back at your earlier post...(re: fuel) If you didn't already, shoot some starter fluid down the 'ole air hole... if it tries to start & run, there could be fuel starvation. This could be fuel flow or electrical.

If you fill-in your info. & signature., it will eliminate a lot of this guessing. :D/

Also make sure it's the #1 spot on the cap and not pointing at the #1 cylinder. If I face my motor my #1 plug wire attaches at about 1:00 O'Clock or 13:00 for the Fly Boys.... :)>- When I first start to feel the air coming out the plug hole I stop and have my wife put a pencil inside and I turn the crank by hand till it is completely up, then keep turning the crank till the pointer is at "0" (if it's past zero start over), then re-position the dizzy to point at #1 on the cap. You may just be a tooth or two off so after you set it to TDC if nothing happens, lift the dizzy and move it ahead a tooth or two or behind the same amount. I had mine off but kept trying to junp a tooth ahead too much. I set it back to TDC again and this time jumped back two teeth and she fired right up.......Good luck man.... >:) -Kevin-
