The wheelbase issue is actually just about perfect and is my reason for going with a bronco in the first place. The subaru has a wheelbase of 99.2 and the bronco has a wheelbase of 104.7, so each wheel will move out about 2.75 inches. The subaru body can be modified to expand the front wheel well forward and the rear wheel well backward, but neither of them can be moved inward much due to the firewall and rear door. I wanted a chassis with a slightly larger wheelbase to accommodate larger wheels with the assumption that the body will have to have custom fender cuts. The subaru is also about a foot narrower than the bronco, so the wheels will stick out quite a bit, but I think this will end up giving it an awesome visual.
The engine is a 351w and poses another mild problem of fitting it. I went into the project with the understanding that the bronco engine is a lot bigger than a subaru one and that I might not be able to fit it into the stock subaru front end. While I'd rather not, I'm ok with the possibility of fabbing a custom fiberglass hood and fenders for the front end if I have to go that route. What I didn't take into consideration, and am still working through the details is that the firewall (and rear of the engine) of the bronco sits back about 4-8" closer to the mounting center point. This means that when I put the sub body on the bronco I might have to cut open the firewall in the center in order to get the engine and transmission to sit where they need to. I'm hoping that if I have to cut this that I'll only have to cut away behind the console where there's stereo and other elements that can be relocated and where it won't be visible. I won't really know this till I get the body on top and can line it up.
