i did ask for some in another topic. i just need to know these questions.

96 with the 5.0

what's the towing capacity?

what about horsepower and torque?

i want to tow a 4,000 pound demolition car with it.

HP is 185@3800, Torque is 270@2400.

Maximum towing capacity for '96 is listed as 7800lbs. That is probably the rating for the 5.7 with the factory towing package, I'm not sure.

I routinely tow a 4000lb. boat with my '92 5.0. The limiting factors are the short wheelbase and the relatively weak engine.

The short whelbase leaves you vulnerable to a sway situation if you're not careful. My Bronco really tends to shimmy on windy days towing along the highway. I have towed the same boat with my girlfriend's Trail Blazer with a longer wheelbase and had no such problems.

The 5.0 will do a pretty good job until you come to a large hill. There is one pretty big hill, about 2 miles long and steep that I have to climb while towing my boat to my camp where my bronco really struggles. I just know beforehand it will be 35mph to the top.

Some tips if you're going to do it,

1) If you have an auto tranny, make sure you have an auxiliary cooler, or else you will ruin your transmission pretty quickly.

2) Set your tongue weight to between 7-10% of your total trailer weight. This will reduce sway as much as possible.

I run a 96 5.0 and tow my 18" hydrosport down to the FL Keys (250 miles) on a regular basis and have no troubles with swaying or with pick up. No clue on how much it weighs though

my parents towed there 4,000 pound 21ft aerolite travel trailer with a 2002 dodge durango with the 4.7 V8. all they used was an equalizer hitch and it worked really well. the bronco will probably have no trouble.

ive got a 5.8 with about 243 horses but it has a new exaust and new headers and other things and it tows a 9,000 pound boat about 50 miles i stopped usin the bronc tho because it only goes 40 mph in 4x4 low so it was a pain in the butt on the highway

 WHAT R U DOING TOWING IN 4X4 LOW [-X [-X [-X [-X NOOOO BAD!! its ok to pull the boat out of the water in low range but once you get up to the flat get it out of 4X4. i pulled a 40 ft house trailer a couple of time with my truck with out a problem. (i only did 60 mph) just push the button on the end of the shifter to take overdrive off, and you should be fine. one more thing did your truck come with the towing package?? if so like mine there should be a transmission cooler mounted in front of the radiator. about 1/4 of the size of it. if not a good idea to get one installed for towing anything :)>-

after i read that, i thought there was something wrong there. 4 low is for lower speeds and most helpful when rock climbin. drivin in low could mess a few things up.
